To my beloved brother,

You may not recognise me at first if you see me now — I’m all sun-darkened from being out in the sunshine [beach] all day. Lately, so many people have been coming to Hua Hin; every train is packed. Almost every day I ride my bicycle to the station with Wimon, and we always meet so many acquaintances.

My teacher, Prisana, has come too, staying at a house near the [Railway] hotel. She doesn’t have a cook, so we have to prepare meals ourselves — Wimon and I have become kitchen helpers for Prisana. It’s much fun! Sister Rati dresses up beautifully to go to the [Railway] hotel each day, then returns home in the evenings, escorted by plenty of young gentlemen — quite stylish, really.

Always with love for you,

Baan Bayan - Heritage House

Past

In the early days, back in 1932, Grandma Prapa embarked on a solo journey to France. She voyaged by sea from Khlong Toei Pier to Singapore, then took flight to Paris in search for fragrances. After sometime, she discovered that perfect scent for her brand. With this treasured fragrance in hand, she returned home to share her innovation. Thus was born "Bayan scented powder"—a pioneer in bearing a modern Western aroma, strikingly different from the Thai style colognes that filled the air at the time.

Present

Before it became Baan Bayan, it was once the summer residence of His Royal Highness when it was built during King Rama VI's reign, later bestowed upon his daughter. She hinted to her hairdresser her wish to sell the house.

On April ist, 1952, my grandmother became the proud owner of this house, she chose to name it after her product "Bayan", a name deeply close to her heart — and that is how Ban Bayan came to be.

Keeping Grandma's wishes, we wish to surround our guests with the same warmth she has given us, welcoming you into the comfort and the serenity of our peaceful escape by the sea.

To my dearest Prisana,

At the moment you read this letter, I shall be upon the afternoon train, making my way back to Bangkok. My thoughts will ever dwell upon you and Hua Hin throughout the time of our separation; yet it will not be long before we are reunited again in Bangkok.

Do you recall all that we spoke of upon the boat yesterday? Our conversation was left unfinished, was it not? In due course, we shall surely resume it. Never have I known such pleasure and delight as I experienced yesterday.

We’ll see each other again very soon,
